Welcome to our Studio Etiquette & FAQ section.
Check them out and email us if you have any questions.
Everything that each of us does in the studio has an effect on everyone else’s experience. We can all make this a great experience for each other by re-aligning to these good habits:
•
Reserve your spot in class on Wellness Living BEFORE you arrive. Change your mind or can’t make it? Cancel at least one hour before class starts for no fee. Cancel within an hour of class start, there’s only a fee if there’s a waitlist.
•
Before entering lobby, remove shoes and bulky coats, and leave them in the small entry room (where the water cooler is).
•
Check yourself in on the iPad in the lobby or make sure a staff member checks you in.
•
Bring a clean mat and towel plus a bottle of water to every class. We have a water cooler to fill your own container as well as drinks to purchase. You may also rent a mat and towel for a fee.
•
The doors will be locked at the beginning of class. Please arrive on time and remain in the hot room for the entire class (sit or lie down if needed, and leave the room only if you must). Starting and ending the class together without disruptions allows all of us to have the best possible experience.
•
For those who choose to practice in the front row: it’s ok to take breaks but please make sure you are practicing this yoga in its correct form, with no other styles or modifications. If you are healing an injury or pregnant please take a spot in the middle or back row.
•
Socializing is encouraged in the lobby or changing room any time, and in the hot room BEFORE class only. During and after class, please remain silent in the hot room so that you and your fellow students can all practice this 90 min open-eyed meditation and everyone can have a peaceful savasana.
•
Be responsible for your body and all of it’s fluids:
Do not practice when sick. Please use tissues- if you have light sniffles or allergies.
Take care with injuries. Ask the teacher before class about how to reduce the depth of postures that may affect your injury.
Clean up your sweat. ALL of it, please. Bring an extra towel from home to absorb any puddles in the hot room (towels provided by the studio will incur a fee). Carry your mat out of the hot room in a way that does not drip. Dry your body with an extra towel before leaving the hot room to avoid dripping sweat on the clean floor and on the rugs in the changing room.
•
Keep your time in the shower room to 3 mins or less so everyone can have access and hot water. Please consider getting dressed in the changing rooms, not in the shower room, to help keep things speedy.
•
The studio is open for only 30 mins after class. Please be aware of how long you’re taking so our teachers and staff can begin their cleaning or leave if they need to.
•
Thank you again for being here. We are all in this together, and we all help each other belong.
All Original Hot Yoga Classes are for Beginners. Practicing for 10 years or 10 days we all practice together. Do what you can with the body you have today. Practice a little bit the right way get all the benefits. Form before Depth.
The room is intentionally kept around 105 degrees and 40 percent humidity. This allows your body to warm up more easily. The Pranayama breathing in the beginning of class also assists with this. Like rubber bands, when your body is warmer it is more pliable. You may more safely access deeper expressions of the posture. The heat also has a tendency to keep you focused on your breathing instead of what you are going to do after class. Sweat may also help detoxify and flush the system while leaving you with a yoga glow.
We are all healing from something, If you have an acute injury or stitches please rest and let it heal. Otherwise, If you have a spine you can practice. Do what you can and notify the teacher of your injury prior to class. They will advise how to best reduce the depth of your postures to help you improve circulation and slowly regain your range of motion so you can go back to feeling great again. Please continue to practice what you can of the Original Hot Yoga Series rather than modifying without teachers direction.
To register for class and ensure you have a spot in class, sign up on Wellness Living. If you need assistance, email stayinalignedyoga@hotmail.comt least an hour prior to class to get registered. We can figure it out before or after class.
If you need to cancel class, just use Wellness Living. There is no penalty for canceling within 2 hours of class. If you need to leave early, try to schedule a class that you can take in its entirety but if not possible, notify the teacher before class. If you are running within 5 minutes late to class. Call the landline before class starts.
We breath through the mouth only during the breathing exercises at the beginning and end of class. Do your best to breath through your nose throughout the rest of class to stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system. This takes your body out of "fight or flight" and into calm breathing. Using your breath to calm your mind and your body to train your brain you will find peace in the most challenging situations. Once you manage your breath you can manage your mind and build more resilience, allowing nothing to steal your peace.
This yoga is unlike other exercise, you do not need to take a day off. You can practice everyday and even twice a day. Think of it like personal hygiene. Like brushing your teeth, daily practice brings more health, vitality and peace to your life. Align your spine, align your life.
Our hot room has an Energy Recovery Ventilation system installed. This improves indoor air quality by exchanging both heat and moisture from the room. The ERV brings fresh filtered air from outside while exhausting stale, polluted air from inside. When the ERV expels stale air of the room it also flushes out the pollutants contained in it. Not only is the ERV energy efficient but who doesn't want improved indoor air quality so you can breath deeply in class?
Yes, Please come to class free of all odors, sweet, sour, organic, legal or not. You are welcome to rinse off before class if needed to be odor free. Please for sanitary reasons, bring a clean mat and towel to practice on daily. If the last time you used your mat was for goat yoga, clean it off before rolling it out.
Coffee is a diuretic and isn't needed to practice. It's also messy if it spills. Please bring only what you need for class in the hot room. Bring only your mat, towel(s) and water/ hydrating beverage. Please leave cell phones and other un-needed items outside the room. Please ensure your smart watches and other wearables are silent or left outside the room. The building is locked during class and your stuff is secure.
No, please come back when you are no longer contagious or showing symptoms. If you are not feeling well ie, cold/ flu symptoms, please stay home until they are gone. It is concerning and distracting for your classmates to practice along side someone who could be spreading more than love and light.
We love baby soft feet as much as you do. But, as your feet shed layers of reptile- like dead skin, the peeling can get pretty messy, distracting and plain gross in the hotroom. If you want to practice while you are peeling, please make sure you leave your socks on for the entire visit at the studio as to avoid shedding skin on the rugs and floors.
A mat to practice on, a towel to sweat on, and water. Please leave your cell phone outside the hot room and take care of the cells in your body. If you are a heavy sweater, please bring additional towels to contain the sweat to your mat area.
Focusing on yourself for 90 minutes is the best way to get to know yourself, fall in love with yourself and build self confidence. First love yourself. Mirrors are also a tool to visually see your form in postures.
When you manage and quiet your mind as you strengthen your spine a sense of calm takes over little by little you practice stillness and with that comes presence and PEACE.
